We look at the latest on COVID-19 on the Cape, Coast, and Islands, and the effect the pandemic is having on our region.

WCAI’s Kathryn Eident talks to local reporters and editors about the issue.  Her guests include: WCAI’s Sam Houghton, Eve Zuckoff, and Jennette Barnes; Tim Wood at the Cape Cod Chronicle; Noah Asimow from the Vineyard Gazette; Geoff Spillane from the Cape Cod Times; Ed Miller from the Provincetown Banner; Josh Balling at the Nantucket Inquirer and Mirror; George Brennan at the Martha’s Vineyard Times; and WCAI’s Mike Deehan at the Massachusetts Statehouse.

Among the stories: the possibility of an overflow patient facility in Southeastern Mass; worries about transportation to the hospital from the Outer Cape and the Islands if and when there is a surge in patients; this week’s orders from Governor Charlie Baker, including extending the ban on non-essential businesses; impacts of the pandemic on local businesses around the region; sober homes are also working to help people stay on track in recovery and safe from COVID-19; in Woods Hole, science projects are on hold; the governor reversed his decision to not allow construction bans but Nantucket selectmen strengthened theirs this week; The Martha’s Vineyard Times is stopping print editions and laying off workers because of a drop in ad revenue; the Provincetown Independent hoped an April Fool’s front page provided a laugh for readers in this tough time; politics has changed in the pandemic but it hasn’t stopped with politicians trying to sustain momentum and think of fall elections; SouthCoast health has furloughed workers amid a drop in revenue; And a nurse at the Bristol County Jail tests positive for COVID-19.
